HTML Ticket Printing

Introduction

HTML ticket printing enables you to print tickets in TicketSearch without the need of installing any Java based or any other third party application. You need to have an appropriate printer driver and a working printer (BOCA Thermal Ticket Printer, Laser Printer, Inkjet Printer, etc.) installed on your system.

We currently support the commonly used web browsers mentioned below:

  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft Edge (version 79 or above)
  • Firefox

Setup used to prepare this document is included in the below mentioned hardware and software specifications. All the details in this document correlate to this configuration.

  • Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro (x64)
  • Printer: Boca BIDI FGL 26/46 300 DPI
  • Web Browser: Google Chrome
  • Ticket Paper: Boca Generic Thermal Ticket Stock (Type: Concert 5.5in x 2in)

The below image shows ticket dimensions for a Boca generic thermal stock concert ticket and how stock has to be fed to the printer.

Ticket Layout Design Considerations

Ticket layouts have to be designed within TicketSearch and taking into consideration the physical ticket stock to be fed into the printer tray. For example, a layout design for a concert ticket with dimensions 5.5in x 2in should only be printed on Boca Generic Thermal Ticket Stock (Type: Concert 5.5in x 2in) or a similar stock with the same dimensions. Using a paper size other than the size specified during layout creation will not give desired results.

Boca Generic Thermal Ticket Stock

Boca Generic Thermal Ticket Stock (Type: Concert 5.5in x 2in) has an inch of stub area for tearing. While designing the layout for a Boca Generic Thermal Ticket (Type: Concert 5.5in x 2in), the stub width has to be carefully considered since any field that spans across the stub may be torn off. So make sure fields are placed in the stub area & remaining ticket area without spanning across both.

The following sections demonstrate an improper ticket layout and a proper ticket layout design. Both sections have taken ‘Concert’ ticket size into consideration, i.e. 5.5in x 2in.

Improper Ticket Layout Design

The below image shows an improper ticket layout as a lot of the fields span across the ticket area from the stub area. The problem with this design is that while separating a printed ticket from its stub, text appearing on the ticket will be separated. The red line indicates where the ticket area will be separated from stub area on the printed ticket.

Proper Ticket Layout Design

Make sure you turn ‘Preview Mode’ ON periodically to check where data is appearing. The below image shows a proper ticket layout. Look closely, there is no data that is overlapping. After separating the ticket area from stub area, the text will remain intact.

The following sections outline the steps to configure supported browsers for printing. Some require these configurations to be done each time a print action is triggered.

Google Chrome Configuration

Google chrome is a widely used web browser available for Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems. Google Chrome requires the below mentioned settings (highlighted in red) in the print preview screen to be done each time a print action is triggered. Generally once done, these settings are retained for subsequent actions unless someone changes them manually.

  • Destination: The printer where you want to print the ticket. This will generally be the BOCA thermal ticket printer.
  • Pages: The page range which you would like to be printed. It is advised to select ‘All’ for this so that all the tickets are printed.
  • Paper size: The size of paper/ticket which is fed to the printer. In the below example we have chosen ‘Concert’ as paper size.
  • Pages per sheet: Is the number of tickets you would like to be printed on each sheet of paper. Make sure it’s always set to ‘1’.
  • Margins: Make sure no margins are set and the value selected is ‘None’.
  • Scale: No scaling has to be applied to the tickets. Always keep it to ‘Default’.

Microsoft Edge Configurations

TicketSearch supports Microsoft Edge (any version above 79) built on top of Chromium browser which is available for Windows and Mac. Edge requires the below mentioned settings (highlighted in red) to be done in the print preview screen each time a print action is triggered. Generally these settings are retained for subsequent actions unless someone changes them manually.

  • Printer: The printer where you want to print the ticket. This will generally be the BOCA thermal ticket printer.
  • Pages: The page range which you would like to be printed. It is advised to select the ‘All’ check box for this in order to print all tickets.
  • Paper size: The size of paper/ticket which is fed to the printer. In the below example we have chosen ‘Concert Ticket’ as paper size.
  • Scale (%): No scaling has to be applied to the tickets. Always keep it to ‘100’.
  • Pages per sheet: Is the number of tickets you would like to be printed on each sheet of paper. Make sure it’s always set to ‘1’.
  • Margins: Make sure no margins are set and the value selected is ‘None’.

  1. Click on ‘File’ menu or press Alt + F to open it.
  • Click on ‘Page Setup…’ menu to open page setup window. See image below with red highlighting.
